Start with the final bill
Use the final amount shown on the bill after any restaurant discounts and charges. If a tip is not already included and your group wants to add one, enter it separately in the calculator. Do not add the same charge twice.
Name everyone at the table. Choose an equal split if the group agrees, or split by item when people ordered different amounts. Each dish can belong to one person or be shared by several.
Add the tip, then divide the total
Adding the tip before splitting keeps the calculation consistent. Everyone receives a share of the same final total, rather than rounding the food and tip separately.
WORKED EXAMPLE
A ₹1,200 dinner plus a ₹120 tip totals ₹1,320. Four friends sharing equally owe ₹330 each. The calculator shows each person's share and provides a result you can copy into your group chat.
Make sure the rounded shares still add up
Some bills cannot be divided evenly to the last paise. Splitting ₹100 among three people gives ₹33.34, ₹33.33, and ₹33.33. Rounding everyone down would leave a paise unpaid.
The bill splitter calculates in integer paise and assigns leftover paise in participant order. The difference between any two equal shares is at most one paise, and all shares add up to the original total.
Use a group when one person pays
If one person covers the bill, record that person as the payer in your Split Today group. Keeping the expense alongside other shared costs gives you a clearer running balance than treating every meal as a separate debt.
For an itemized bill, assign dishes to their participants. Added charges and tips follow food subtotals. If several people paid for different expenses, the trip calculator can calculate the remaining transfers. Actual payments happen outside Split Today.
